The Wood for the Trees

The Wood for the Trees

Details

Eminent natural historian Richard Fortey tells the story of a special piece of Chiltern woodland. A joint event with Wild Maidenhead

Richard Fortey is an award-winning scientist who, on his retirement, bought four acres of ancient Chiltern woodland outside Henley. His book about the wood and his love of it (The Wood for the Trees) tells the story of the wood's changing seasons, its place in the region's history and the discoveries he made there. It is one of his many books written during a career which has made him one of our most eminent natural historians - a noted palaeontologist, writer and past President of the Geological Society of London. He has presented many BBC TV documentaries including The Secret Life of Rock Pools in 2013 and Nature’s Wonderlands: Islands of Evolution, a three part series on evolution on islands in 2016. He has also worked on programmes with Sir David Attenborough bringing our natural history to audiences around the world. We shall have a book stall at the event and Richard will be signing copies of his book on sale there.

As usual no charge for attendance but a donation please on the evening.
