Battlemead News: Be Prepared!

Mike C.
Maidenhead, GB
As you may be aware we are in contact with the Royal Borough about the land it has acquired adjoining Widbrook Common and now named Battlemead Common.  This is a place rich in wildlife and we are urging the Council to ensure that this is protected, whilst also allowing appropriate public access.  An article in the Maidenhead Advertiser yesterday tells the story.

We have been concerned that the fencing that separates the land from the Thames Path has been removed, exposing the land to easy public access. Already we have several reports of people walking on the land and allowing dogs to flush duck and geese wintering there.  We should be getting confirmation soon of the Council's intention to address this with a barrier.  We have offered to help with this.  So this note, as well as being a general update about the site, acts as a warning that we may be calling on people in the next week or so to help with some volunteer work there.  Hopefully, along with Wild Maidenhead and other volunteer teams, we can come together to get the job done and make a practical contribution to what will, we hope, be a significant contribution to our wildlife support.

Watch this space!

Best regards
