  • Meetup #21 - Spektrix
This month Spektrix are welcoming us to their offices in Blackfriars. They have let us borrow Domenico Musto and Freddie Porter for the evening, who will talk about one of their most recent projects, and how they moved their central session store from DB to Redis. They will cover why they did it, how it was done, and what benefits they've seen from the transition. We also have the DevOpsGuys' Steve Thair talking about cloud adoption: most of the major cloud vendors have published "Cloud Adoption Frameworks" (CAFs"), as have advisory groups like Gartner and Forrester. But what are they, do you need one, and what's the value in adopting one for your cloud journey? Steve will look at 4 Cloud Adoption Frameworks, discuss their relative strengths and weaknesses, talk about the different types of CAFs, different types of cloud adoption strategies and how DevOps could (and should) play a role in your cloud strategy. Bios: Domenico Musto is a Principal Engineer at Spektrix. He has 15 years of experience in software architecture, and is a strong advocate of distributed systems, event driven architecture, automation testing and continuous delivery. Freddie Porter is a Product Owner at Spektrix. Whilst relatively new to engineering, Freddie has over 6 years of experience in supporting theatre and the arts with data-driven processes. His experiences at Spektrix show the challenges facing those outside of the tech world adopting new technologies. Steve Thair has twenty five years of IT experience working for top government and corporate organisations in Australia and the UK, including BNP Paribas, Vodafone and Credit Suisse. Prior to co-founding DevOpsGuys, Steve was the Web Operations Manager for Totaljobs and was responsible for running their online job board platform. Steve’s passion is creating operationally excellent platforms for web applications that are secure, scalable and manageable. He is an expert across a wide range of technologies, with Microsoft web server infrastructure being a specialism.
