The Start of the Ride
WCCC members and their friends meet at the Queen's Landing in Grant Park (across Lake Shore Drive from Buckingham Fountain) around 9:45am on Saturday morning and leave promptly at 10:00 am toward the south side. At the landing, look for a group of cyclists, dressed casually (and stylishly).

We will ride from the Landing to the South Shore Cultural Center at the end of the marked bike path. Note that due to COVID-19 restrictions, the center is not currently open. After a brief stop, we will ride back north to Hyde Park.
Brunch in Hyde Park
We will stop in Hyde Park to get coffee and pastries to enjoy in a local park while maintaining social distance.
Back to the Queen's Landing
After brunch we head back to the Queen's Landing. Some people break off along the way depending on where they live, but if you ride from the Totem Pole and back you’ve traveled about 20 miles.
Bring a Friend
All WCCC members are welcome to bring their friends along. We all understand that it’s hard sometimes to come to a group alone, that’s why we encourage everyone to bring friends. Our recreational rides are meant to be social, so we strongly encourage everyone to come ready to meet someone. The more cyclists…the merrier!
What about the Weather?
This recreational ride is usually a fair-weather ride, though sometimes you’ll find that really brave cyclist willing to ride in the rain. Just don’t ride in thunderstorms! We’ll may cancel for bad weather, so please check back on this page for updates the morning of the ride if the conditions are questionable.
What Do I Bring?
- Your bike! Any bike will do, this ride is Easy to Moderate Pace (10-14mph). 2) All WCCC rides require a helmet. 3) Water bottle. 4) Bike lock. 5) It’s a good idea to bring materials to fix a flat. Usually there is a good-natured soul who will help you, but it’s good to be prepared. 6) Money for lunch or public transport. The path is fairly close to public transportation the entire route, so the CTA is always an option to get back if you’re too tired or your bike has malfunctioned. 7) A friend if you want, and 8) your desire to relax and have fun!
NOTE: masks are optional while riding, but we ask that participants bring a mask for the Hyde Park stop. It will be needed for any purchases. Depending on the seating in the park, riders may or may not wish to wear the mask during that part of the stop. While riding, please also maintain appropriate social distancing with your fellow riders.
We hope to see you on the WCCC Hyde Park Ride!
