What we're about

Written by our group's founder, Sheryl Woods:

Love good wine, reading books, & discussing ideas with other friendly people? Then come join us at our monthly discussions while enjoying wine & food! We meet in an Elmhurst, IL wine bar.

The book club has existed since May 2012 & we're a co-ed group from 30's to 70's from all walks of life. Discussions are held the 3rd or 4th Wednesday of the month. We read narrative non-fiction, literary fiction selections from the Dublin Literary Award, Booker, etc., biographies, history, and local authors. Other genres such as Sci-Fi may be selected but never 'chick lit', pop fiction, or romances. We've also enjoyed having authors participate in some of the past discussions; Jeff Mudgett with his book "Bloodstains" was our 1st guest author.

As we meet in a restaurant and not a public library or private home, it is expected that you will partake of the restaurant's menu offerings. The hosting establishment has generously set aside space for us that could be used by other customers with the expectation that all will order menu items. If this is unacceptable or not feasible for you, then this book club isn't for you.

Members who are active in the group are welcome to join our closed Facebook group. Inactive members & no shows will be removed.

Written by her inferior successor as book dictator, Jay Huhman:

Each quarter I try to choose a work of fiction after 2000, an older work of fiction from 1950 to 2000, and a non-fiction book. Books should be between 250 and 350 pages, available in local libraries, and used copies should be inexpensive at Amazon or ABE. Books that have won awards or have high ratings at Goodreads are normally selected but hopefully they will not be too scholarly.
