Meetup #14 - Spooky VR

The Alternate Reality Club is a local meetup for XR developers and enthusiasts.

Join us for our spookiest meetup yet!

We'll be kicking things off with a virtual ghost story by Stephen Sim, followed by a live demo and post mortem of "3 Sisters VR Experience" by Corey King and then a talk on spooky and scary theory in gaming with Ryan Clement. We'll end the evening with some hangout time via Airmeet (link coming soon). Full presenter details are below!

Stephen Sim, The Improv Company
A virtual ghost story - Stephen is an improviser and storyteller who has performed and taught internationally. After being involved in a live animation improv show using VR he has been inspired to tell stories and perform shows in this emerging medium.

Corey King, ZenFri Inc.
VR as Educational Installation: Harvesting Design Ideas from the "3 Sisters VR Experience" - Working closely with park staff, interpreters and Canadian Ecotourism Services, ZenFri Inc. designed "3 Sisters VR Experience" which will be provided as an additional paid onsite experience for people exploring Chiefswood Park. This live demonstration and postmortem discussion will delve into the process of making a VR experience for this context and go over some technical and design challenges the team experienced.

“Play Only if You Dare”: Designing Games that Spook and Horrify - An introduction to game studies and the use of horror mechanics and elements in games, with a particular focus on emergent narrative and player experience.

• When entering, you will be asked to enter in your information (Name, Work Organization, etc.)
• You will then enter the Social Lounge where you’re welcomed to take a “seat” at a virtual tables.
• A countdown of 15 seconds will start at the bottom of your screen to let you know the session will start. Once the session starts, you will be automatically sent to the Main event.Sit back, relax and enjoy the festivities!
