It's therapeutic qualities have been shown in studies to cure depression & anxiety, stimulate the mind, and provide a sense of purpose and satisfaction. The benefits of knitting are doubled when performed in a group.
We all come to this craft for different reasons. 'Wire' or 'why are' we knitting can be answered in many different ways. It can be a creative release from the hectic day job, the yearning to master a new skill, a relaxing exercise when recovering from illness or simply to feel the joy of completing a tangible object from just some needles and a ball of yarn. 'Wire' refers to my own speciality in knitting wire jewellery, a craft I am very passionate about and have created a sucessful business out of.
This group was started locally away from meetup over 3 years ago. I was recovering from a major operation and felt isolated in my recuperation at home. I decided to set up a regular weekly knitting group to feel part of the 'living' again, to connect with like-minded individuals, feel part of the local community and help support my favourite local tearoom.
The group has since flourished, with ever knowledgeble members joining as we speak. It's been wonderful getting to know everyone, many friendships have been formed, some members discovering they live on the same street! We have even organised yarny day trips away together. Everyone just brings along the yarn project they're working on, some spinning has also taken place! - It's held at The Waiting Room, a lovely vintage tearoom in totteridge, North London with homemade cakes and nibbles to die for! I'd like to invite you to come join us with your knitting or crochet in our cosy tearoom, to exchange tips, ideas and encouragement - beginners are welcome. Just bring along whatever project you're working on - if you need some advice on starting from scratch, I'm happy to advise on materials to bring. There may also be the opportunity to try some wire knitting if you fancy something new.
There is a £1 meetup fee when you attend- to cover meetup admin costs.
