The Broadband divide in Rural California

Needs a location

In this meetup, Ken Biba of Novarum Consultants, a team of wireless industry veterans, will discuss his work with the CPUC and how he is informing the California Emerging Technology Fund investments in broadband in CA. His analysis of the CPUC data shows a consistent, multiyear pattern of wireless broadband that rural areas get about 3/5ths of the quality of service (throughput, delay, packet loss, TCP connection failures, etc) as urban areas. This broadband divide only gets exacerbated by 5G. Ken has been surveying wireless broadband in CA for the CPUC for the past 5 years, developing some of the best survey data and actual measurement maps available. He will present a summary of their findings and upcoming projects. "We are about to extend these measurements to wired, fixed wireless and WiFi measurements throughout CA." Ken will also review a summarize his work with California K-12 schools on best practice in enterprise WiFi networking. Schools (and Stadiums) are by far the hardest working enterprise networks. This is a free meetup for WCA Membership and the WCA Meetup group. Seating is limited, so please signup only if you truly plan to attend.
