What we're about
Hi to everyone who looks in or comes to join us.
A group for over 50s on the Wirral who prefer to walk less than three miles due to their individual abilities and who are trying to become fitter. We need a photo of yourself and we don't charge to join.
We are amblers due to the pace and the short distances we walk. If you can easily walk long distances this isn't the group for you.
Ours is a group for older people who are hoping to gradually improve their health and fitness. We walk anything up to two miles in total, at a leisurely pace and stop for a rest or to enjoy a view where possible. We often have a relaxing coffee at the end of the walk or mid way.
Our group is a friendly group of considerate people and we welcome all new members.
We also have mini meet ups for new members from time to time and these are for 4 members or less to help new members feel more at ease about coming along but new members are welcome at all events.
Meet ups will mostly be during the afternoon on weekdays (rarely weekends). Nobody will be pushed to go further or faster than they can manage and nobody should feel under pressure to hurry or catch up. The meet ups will vary but be up to three hours.
Our meet up ambles are focused on nature, wildlife, the countryside, craft and antique fairs, guided tours, visits to coffee or tea shops, art galleries and museums, always on the lookout for the quaint and quirky while gradually and gently improving our walking abilities. If we call in at a pub for a coffee you can be assured that it will be a decent and comfortable place to be. We also try to choose places where parking is easy to keep stress to a minimum.
Everyone is more than welcome to put forward ideas or host ambles in places they would like to go.
So do come and join us, don't think of reasons why you can't, plan how you can.
I'm sure you'll be glad you did. :)
* From 1st October 2017 if you want to join us you will need to apply with a clear photo of yourself so we can recognise you at our meet ups.
** If you've put your name down to attend and then find you can't go, could you please let me know, this is especially important on or before the day of the meet up as it saves us delaying the start
*** We will only wait 5 to 10 minutes for latecomers (depending on the event), especially if we've had to pay for a parking time limit.
**** Anyone who hasn't been to anything and doesn't show an interest for several months risks being removed from the group. The group is kept deliberately small to 40 members due to the costs for having a large group and to prevent us becoming a large impersonal group with forgotten members. Everyone is cared about here.
