Holton Creek River Camp, Suwannee River Wilderness Trail

Details
This will be a short paddle with overnight camping at Holton Creek River Camp on the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail to allow for all and anyone that might be intimidated by longer trips and those that would like to check out the camps. This will be a slow relaxing weekend to enjoy this beautiful section of the Suwannee River with wide sand bars and high sandstone bluffs. There will be plenty of time for swimming, hiking, fishing and a campfire.
We will meet at Deese-Howard Boat Ramp, you may need to use the Lat/Long coordinates with your GPS to find the ramp easier. After dropping kayaks and gear at Deese-Howard Ramp we will shuttle vehicles promptly at 11a to the take out at Gibson County Park. An outfitter will meet us at 11:30a to take us back to the put in. The cost for the shuttle will be shared by all.
Day 1 is a 5.5 mile paddle to Holton Creek River Camp. We have 2 screened platforms reserved for sleeping (see picture above), one for guys and one for girls. We can add another platform if we have enough participants. You can also bring a tent if you would like to primitive camp. You must provide all of your own camping equipment and food for the weekend. The campground hosts usually have ice for sale. There are flush toilets and hot showers at the river camp. The platforms have ceiling fans and electricity.
Day 2 we will launch at 9 a.m. for a 6.4 mile paddle to the take out at Gibson County Park (30.437639, -83.094028). Just before Gibson Park we can take a short side trip and paddle upstream into the Alapaha Rise.
This outing is free for WWALS members and $10 per day for non-members. We recommend you support the work of WWALS by becoming a member today!
