Cleanup Sugar Creek at Withlacoochee River & Lunch at Salty Snapper

Reroute: Langdale Park becomes Withlacoochee River and Sugar Creek Cleanup 2022-05-07
We’re changing this Saturday’s paddle to an on-land cleanup below the Salty Snapper parking lot, walking down Sugar Creek to the Withlacoochee River and the railroad bridge.
Because it’s now completely a cleanup, this outing is free! Also, no boat required. Bring mud boots, sturdy clothes, gloves, and any trash pickers you may have. We will supply trash bags. And for the Mayor, a Sawzall.
[Trash and log jams]
This reroute is because the leader of this outing, Russell McBride, paddled the Withlacoochee this morning from Langdale Park Boat Ramp to Sugar Creek. While he could do it, novice paddlers would not find it much fun, with five big log jams to drag boats over and also a few hundred feet of dragging on river bottom. Rain is predicted for Friday afternoon or evening, but the rain the other day only raised the river briefly about a foot, and that would not be enough for an enjoyable paddle.
Put In: Come on down to the Salty Snapper, 1405 Gornto Road, Valdosta, GA 31602. Park behind the restaurant and join the cleanup!
GPS: 30.8625, -83.31875
When: Gather 9 AM, end 11 AM, Saturday, May 7, 2022. Then you can if you choose buy lunch and eat with us at the Salty Snapper.
Free: This outing is free to everyone. If you already paid an outing fee online, you can apply that to another outing.
