Space Apps Challenge

Chicago Women Developers member Nicole McCabe is organizing the International Space Apps Challenge. If you'd like to get involved, there's more information from Nicole below.

This April 12th and 13th Chicago will host its very first Space Apps Challenge, an international hackathon created by NASA to tackle challenges related to space exploration(!). This year's challenges will fall into 5 areas: human space flight, technology in space, robotics, asteroids and Earth watch, with data and education challenges cutting across all five topics.

One of the powerful things about crowdsourcing is its ability to engage diverse sets of expertise to develop innovative solutions. You don’t need to be a software engineer to attend; we’re looking to attract people from a variety of disciplines!

Challenges will be published on March 12th, and the official website (spaceappschallenge.org) will be launched very shortly. Until then, you can keep up to date on all the latest Space Apps news on twitter @spaceappschi and spaceappschicago.tumblr.com

Check out some of the amazing stuff last year’s teams came up with: http://open.nasa.gov/blog/2013/05/22/global-award-winners-for-the-2013-international-space-apps-challenge/

Are you interested in being a mentor and answering questions during the hackathon? Do you have specialized knowledge in one or more of the 5 subject areas? Do you just love space and and want to find out how you can support this event? Awesome! We’re still building our organizational team, so feel free to contact me at [address removed].

Hope to see you there!
