How to Manage your New Manager
by Ruth Lee
Working with your manager is a skill, working with a manager who is new to management and was previously an engineer, is an art form. This talk sheds some light on the struggles of a new manager and how engineers that find themselves reporting to them can better understand their perspectives and ensure they're setting themselves up for a strong long term working relationship.
About Ruth
Ruth is an Engineering Manager for the Site Reliability Team at Splunk. Previously a Linux Engineer she remains unnaturally interested in how time functions in computing. As an Engineering Manager she is particularly interested in helping individuals self-advocate and steer their own careers. She's also an enthusiastic yet thoroughly average crossfitter, and when not at the gym you can find her running Dungeons & Dragons sessions.
