Instead of our regularly scheduled Code Jam, we will be hosting a Node.js workshop. (We will pick up with double the Code Jam in October, with sessions the 1st and 3rd weeks of October.)
Node.js is an interesting new phenomenon to hit the development scene. Companies like Netflix, Walmart, Sams Club, PayPal, Medium, LinkedIn and Uber are just a few of the companies that are using it in production. Node.js is a server technology used to build and run web applications.
In this class, we'll learn the basics of working with Node.js. You will build an application using Node.js. During the class you will add new features to your application, including connecting it to a database.
What are the requirements?
Laptop (Macintosh or Windows) Knowledge of JavaScript is helpful but not necessary
Who is the target audience?
Anyone who wants to learn Node.js
What will I learn from this class?
The basics of working with Node.js How to write and run a simple web server using Node.js Build a web application using Express.js Connect to a Mongo database
Class duration:
Training will start promptly at 1PM so please arrive early so you have time to set-up your computer (the room will be open at 12:30PM)
Training will end at 4PM

Instructor Bio
Jennifer Bland is a Software Developer for CNN, specializing in MEAN stack development. She has more than ten years of development experience. Jennifer is the author of the book “Developing e-Business Applications Using Lotus Domino on the AS/400", published by IBM.
She runs the website codeprep.io (http://codeprep.io/) which provides interview questions to assist programmers in preparation for job interviews. Her personal website is jenniferbland.com (http://jenniferbland.com/).
Jennifer holds a B.A. in History from Furman University and an MBA from San Jose State University.
