Workshop: Intro to SQL

Women Who Code Berlin is happy to host an Intro to SQL workshop in collaboration with Wayfair!

About the workshop:
Most applications we code are powered by data. This data is stored in databases and as developers we are often tasked with getting data in and out of such a database. But how does a database work? How is the information structured? Where is it stored? And how can we get the correct information out of our database - and fast!

Schedule:
18:00 - doors open (grab a drink & some food!)
18:30 - workshop starts
20:30 - workshop ends

If you don't know yet what a "join" operation is and why an index would be useful - this workshop is for you!
If you ever wondered about how to store some data for your website - this is also the right workshop for you. If you know how to work with Excel or have worked with a database under a layer of abstraction but want to go a bit deeper - you should also join this workshop.

Who can join:
This course is aimed at anyone who is curious about SQL and databases. There are no pre-required skills and you don't need to know any programming language. We will cover any questions that may arise, and we will start the course from the very basics.

Requirements:

• Bring a laptop
• You should have a text editor installed, but you can choose one of your preference (Notepad++, Sublime Text, Atom, ...)
• Install XAMPP from here: https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html

About your teacher:
Radu Nicoara has been working as a programmer for the past 10 years. He has learned a variety of programming languages by using YouTube and developing personal projects. He is currently working as a Full Stack Engineer for Wayfair GmbH.
