We are very excited to announce the second Meetup of our Machine Learning Industry Spotlight Series! In this series, we highlight companies that utilize machine learning to propel their respective industries. Beyond the buzzword—beyond machine magic and black boxes, are real problems being solved with this once-fantastic tool. Whether you are interested in learning more about machine learning or are just starting to learn about the subject, prepare to be amazed by the work being done on issues that you may not have known needed solving.

Our presentation will begin with a panel discussion by the incredible women of Tempus on how they use tech and machine learning on a daily basis. The panel will include Katie Iguarta (Computational Biologist), Hailey Lefkofsky (Product Manager), Aarti Venkat (Bioinformatics Scientist), and Denise Lau (Computational Biologist). Leading this discussion will be Alissa Ampezzan who is the Director of Design. This will be followed by a presentation from Ryan Fukushima, COO of Tempus, on how Tempus uses machine learning to bridge the disconnect in medical care.

How do you debug medical care? Tempus was partially born through the realization “that truck drivers often get better data about how to do their jobs than oncologists do.” Although that may be an unsettling comparison, it can be difficult to consolidate treatments with results. If a drug is only effective on a portion of those receiving treatment, what induces its success/failure? Tempus strives to combine data from the clinical level with data on the molecular level, to find the patterns that will enable better decisions in medical care. Join the Meetup to see how Tempus uses their machine learning platform to “attack one of the most challenging problems mankind has ever faced.”

Additional Note:

We will always be fierce advocates of inclusivity and learning, but we are also sensitive to the woes of the hangry*. Food and drink will graciously be provided by Tempus.

*If you are unfamiliar with the term, it is a pop-culture derived portmanteau of hungry and angry.
