Android App Development for Beginners Technical Study Group (Lession 1)

Over the next 5 months, we will be working through the free edX course, Android App Development for Beginners, found here: https://www.edx.org/course/android-app-development-beginners-galileox-caad002x#! (https://www.edx.org/course/android-app-development-beginners-galileox-caad002x#!.).
At the meetup, we will focus on getting set-up with Android Studio, "MEET ANDROID STUDIO", and working through "LESSON 1: BASIC CONCEPTS AND UI".
The following month after the completion of the course, we will have a Hackathon to use the new skills to build a solution(s) for a local non-profit (more details to come).
Description of the Course:
This course is designed for students who want to learn how to develop Android apps. You’ll learn how to create an Android project with Android Studio and run a debuggable version of the app. You'll also learn some android architecture and the key principles underlying its design, you will have a good understanding of the processes that are involved in an android developed application and you will become familiar with android development tools and user interface. By the end of the course, you’ll build four simple apps that you can share with your friends.

What is a Technical Study Group?
Women Who Code Technical Study Groups are events where women can come together and help each other learn and understand a specific programming language, technology, or anything related to coding or engineering.
We welcome developers of all levels and encourage those with more experience to help out those that are just starting. There's always at least one mentor or leader present to help you with best practices or to guide you through if you are stuck with a nasty problem! :)
