Topic: Designing & Building Graphical Interface Software
In this workshop you will be given a run through of how one designs and builds interactive graphical software in the shortest amount of time. Will go over how to be kind to future readers of your code by documenting your code adequately. Using an example project of a restaurant ordering app, will go through how you pick the appropriate data structures for the core model, and how you design and build ergonomic user interfaces for the widest range of hardware and facilitate localization of your products. We will discuss how you select the optimal implementation language and platform for your product, and will go over some of the deep flaws in current systems, and give a sneak preview of the next generation of languages which are coming down the road.

Mr. de Jong is a grizzled veteran of the software industry with an estimated 80,000 hours of programming experience. Starting with an IBM 1620 using FORTRAN, he has had to learn 3 assembly languages, PL/1, APL, C, Modula-2, Objective-C, many operating systems, and tools along the way. He was the original author of WordStar 2000, a very popular word processor, a desktop publishing program for IBM called DisplayWrite/Composer, a web design product for kids, the Flying Colors painting program, and the million-selling Discus CD label design program. He has written over 100 iPhone/Android applications, and currently is VP of engineering in a silicon valley startup.
