• What we'll do

Join Women Who Code Fort Collins as we learn more about real-time data with Sockets with developer Joel A Bair.

Real-time data has become a standard in modern web and mobile applications. Users expect immediate global reactions to their changes and are increasingly confounded when this is not present in their application experience. In this talk, I'll introduce the flagship underlying protocol - WebSockets, with a brief history of the problem, and show how easy it is to integrate SocketIO into your full-stack project. Additionally, we'll talk about modern standards like GraphQL and REST and how ws:// integrates there.

Joel is a 20-year software and web development professional. He started coding with BASIC in grade school on Commodore and Tandy personal computing systems. He graduated to Amiga-OS and the Commodore Amiga platform in high school. He then went on to study Electronic Engineering in College where he discovered Linux, IRC, Home Brew computing, and Open Source Software. He then went straight into the IT job market with a focus on Linux and Open Source Technology. Today, he works as an architect and senior full-stack developer doing mostly JavaScript development for various start-ups.
