Next Jump will be hosting a series of 5-10 minute tech talks from a variety of speakers at the Next Jump London office in Waterloo.

Come by for some drinks, nibbles, friendly faces and some awesome tech talks!

Note: This event is open to all genders

(1) Olivia Graham - An Introduction to using the responsive CSS/JS framework Bootstrap.

About the Speaker:

I am a full stack web developer and I’ve been working at Next Jump in London for nearly four years. I love building new products and releasing them quickly which is the power of the web, and I’m also passionate about tech education in schools and supporting women in tech.

Talk Summary:

DevOps technology, rather a practice is now revolutionising the whole development strategy at the moment. DevOps is the practice of operations and development engineers participating together in the entire service lifecycle of a software, from design through the development process to production support.

About the Speaker:

My name is Srividhya, I know its a very long name and so I cut short it to just have people calling me 'Sri'

I am a .net developer with approximately 8+ years of experience more of which is in to web development. I have recently joined a government agency and working on a project involving angular2 client and a web api service. I am excited to learn new technologies and implement it in parallel. I would like to meet fellow women technologists and try to understand what is going on in the parallel technical fields like Java, PHP, SCALA,Python and the likes!!

(3) Denise Yu - An introduction to functional reactive programming

Talk Summary:

"Functional reactive programming" is a phrase that's making its way through various language communities lately, but the core concepts have been around since the late 90s. In this talk I will briefly outline what FRP is, how it uses functional paradigms, and what you might use it for.

About the Speaker:

"I'm a Node.js developer at the Mergermarket Group and Makers Academy alum. My current projects include organising codebar, Clojurebridge, LSCC, and random events usually related to increasing diversity in the tech industry or software craftsmanship"

(4) Karen Scott - Providing meaningful work experience for budding software developers

Talk:

An introduction to a new project designed to help budding software developers to progress into the industry through a vocational route. FutureCoders will aim to prepare young people not only with the basic technical skills to function in a software development context but also the personal characteristics to allow them to thrive. This talk will walk through the role of the major players in this process, the logistics and the vision.

About the Speaker:

I am currently managing Digital
Pathways Apprenticeship programmes at The Challenge, based in Waterloo, London. I am passionate about developing young people for careers in software development and
about the need for students at all levels over 16 to gain real work experience and mentoring from
those in the industry they want to work in as well as from those of us with dated experience but a
passion for education.

(5) Tanya Powell - Intersectionality within the tech industry

Talk:

A talk on intersectionality within the tech community. What is intersectionality? Why should we be aware of it? Tanya Powell will explain all.

About the Speaker:

Tanya Powell is a software engineer at Gamesys, a board member for Women Hack for Non-Profits and volunteers at EmpowerHack and Chayn. She's a huge fan of reality TV and loves spending lazy days on GitHub whilst catching up with the Real Housewives of {insert any city - she watches them all}.

(6) Tetiana Hogg - Techniques for Effective Learning

Talk:

In my talk I would like to share with you techniques for effective learning. I am applying this technique to learn programming languages. No more spoilers about the talk, that’s all you get in this short summary.

About the Speaker:

I am working as a software engineer and passionate about challenges and making learning fun. In my free time I contribute to open source and working on my own software/hardware projects. I like the idea of mixing hardware and software together. As a social person, I like to build social games, which include "testing" with friends. All my latest projects include Elixir.
