We cannot believe December is almost here, and that means our annual Holiday Lightning Talks event is right around the corner! Join us online on zoom as we celebrate the holidays!

This year's theme is "My Favorite (Tech) Things", inspired by April Wensel's fantastic talk about conscious joy at our October anniversary event. April encouraged us to remember what brings us joy, even the little things like San Diego sunsets and the smell of fresh coffee. We'll be putting a tech-spin on this concept - we would love to hear about your favorite tech-related tools, languages, books, resources, websites, plug-ins, podcasts, algorithms, hardware devices, data structures, design patterns, color palettes, inspirational heroes, etc etc!

VS Code dark mode and green builds on Jenkins,
Spring-loaded keyboards and well-described check-ins,
An O(n) algorithm for reversing a string,
These are a few of my favorite things~

This is a great chance to practice speaking in front of a supportive audience! You can talk about the suggested theme "My Favorite (Tech) Things", or also feel free to present about something else (e.g. practice a short version of a conference talk, or tell us about a project you're passionate about, or teach a small thing!)

If you would like to present a 5-10 minute lightning talk, please sign up here:

Depending on time constraints and your bravery, we may also accept lightning talks on the day of the event.

Of course, supportive audience members are welcome! You do not need to present a talk in order to attend this event. :)

Oh, and HOLIDAY ATTIRE IS ENCOURAGED! Wear your festive sweaters, dazzling party dresses/suits, or cozy reindeer pajamas! :D

Schedule:

6:00pm = Join the zoom!
6:10pm = Welcome!
6:15pm = Lightning Talks!
7:15pm (or whenever talks are finished) = Networking via breakout rooms, maybe?
8:00pm = Happy holidays to all, and to all a good night!
