Sketching in VR using WebVR and Aframe 😎 😎 😎

Details

2017 is going to be year zero for VR and volumetric experiences. In the long run, this will change your work, no matter what your discipline. But in the short term, sketching in VR is still hard. It shouldn't be.

This 2-hour workshop will introduce you to the basics of thinking in 3D, give you a brief overview of the current VR device landscape, and – most importantly – provide you with a process for rapidly testing your VR ideas using paper, a camera, and Mozilla's Aframe library.

Web experience is a must, but VR experience is optional. You'll provide the laptop, smartphone (at least Android 6.0+, or an iPhone 5 or later), Cardboard viewer, a willingness to write code with a beginners mind.

Bio:

Ryan Betts is a seasoned interaction designer who can take ideas all the way from concept to code. He spent the first 10 years of his career mastering design for the responsive web and smartphone applications, and has spent the last 2 years transitioning that expertise to volumetric UIs. Formerly a member of Adobe/PhoneGap team, and briefly a member of the W3C, Ryan currently does freelance user experience work and regularly writes and speaks on the near future of computing.
