Details
Join Our Fall Series!
Please join us for our Fall Series as we explore the art and process of crafting our words here at Women Writing for (a) Change, Jacksonville.
WHAT: Fall Series 2018
WHEN: August 29, 2018, 6-9:00 p.m., for 12 weeks
WHERE: Riverside (1610 Osceola Street, 32204)
CLASS SIZE: Limited to 18 spaces.
FEE: $325 for the Series, $300 Early Bird by August 1. ($75 deposit non-refundable unless cancelled two weeks before class).
In this series, we'll explore ideas of crafting our work as beautifully—and skillfully—as anyone might craft a delicious meal, a colorful painting, or a sculpted form. This takes discipline, skillful technique, and practice —but also love.
We'll use William Zinsser's classic, On Writing Well, to guide our writing — and editing — process during the semester. Writing is an art, not a science, but important principles do apply!
We'll also explore the themes of curation, choice, technique, and process. The Series will meet weekly on Wednesday nights for 12 weeks, beginning August 29 and ending the week before Thanksgiving. The semester culminates in our Public ReadAround on Saturday, November 17, 2018.
New writer? Remember, you don't have to be a professional writer to join in. Use this class to find out more about Women Writing for (a) Change's amazing process, used by thousands of women across the country to express their authentic selves through writing and community-building. We'll use prompts, poetry, and prose to practice many different writing techniques.
Experienced writers? You'll have a chance to sharpen your craft and technique in our small-group circles, so, bring whatever project you're working on and expect good feedback.
“A circle of women may be the most powerful force known to humanity. If you have one, embrace it. If you need one, seek it. If you find one, for the love of all that is good and holy, Dive in. Hold on. Love it up. Get naked. Let them see you. Let them hold you. Let your reluctant tears fall. Let yourself rise fierce and love great. You will be changed. The very fabric of your Being will be altered by this. If you allow it. Please, allow it."
