The Frick Madison w/ the Curious Art Historian + Picnic (Art-full Members Only)

On Saturday August 28th, let’s savor the last bit of summer with a Central Park picnic, art talk, and visit to the Frick collection (https://www.frick.org/) in its temporary new home on Madison Avenue.

The Frick’s two-year rental of the Breuer building (originally built to house the Whitney Museum and then home to the Met Breuer), is a chance to see its opulent collection in a new light. In this more austere setting, “the collection comes directly to the fore; both revealing its richesse and its oversights,” says Marly Marius in Vogue. “There’s no jostling for space in this building, or competing for attention with a molding or a Renaissance-era couch. The breathing room abounds, serving up an altogether different kind of splendor.”

Luckily, we will also have ‘the Curious Art Historian’, Janelle Diethelm (https://www.thecuriousarthistorian.com/), on hand to prep us for our viewing of the collection. Anyone who attended our ‘Contemporary Art 101’ online events with Janelle this past winter knows how chock-full of knowledge she is, and the Frick is one of her most favorite collections.

We will meet at Via Quadronno on East 73rd to pick up to-go paninis. Lunch NOT included in ticket price and must be purchased separately. Then we will picnic on Pilgrim hill/by the sailboat pond in Central Park while learning more about the Frick’s collection from Janelle.

All tickets include the art talk with Janelle. Full experience tickets also include 1:30pm reserved entry to the Frick. (Picnic/talk-only tickets are designed for anyone who has a Frick membership or other way of getting discounted admission.)
