This is a book club for women in the DMV area who either want motivation to read more, a place to discuss what they are reading, or just an excuse to meet other people in the area and develop friendships! The majority of members are in their mid 20’s to mid 30’s.
We’ll plan for at least one book per month and try to give everyone enough notice to get a copy of the book and read it in time, but we haven’t yet planned out that many of the future books so if you have recommendations please let us know! We're open to pretty much all genres.
We'll also occasionally plan other types of just social events like happy hours, trivia night, brunch, or potentially outdoor activities if people are interested!
A bit about us:
Amanda: I’m 27 and from Fresno, CA. I’ve been in the DMV area for four years now. I moved here for grad school and I’m sticking around for my job as a law enforcement analyst. I currently live in Woodbridge with my partner and our two pet children: Copper (our crazy hyper border collie) and Tod (our extremely loud Siamese kitten). Outside of reading, I enjoy wineries and trying new restaurants.
Carrie: I'm 25 and from Salt Lake City, Utah. I've been in the DMV area off and on for seven years. I moved here for family purposes and have loved it so much I don't want to leave! I am a preschool teacher to two and three year olds, an adorable handful! I also love horses, baking and self-improvement! I'm excited to get to know you all!
This group was just created in July 2020 and so far we have just been doing virtual meetups due to COVID, but we are starting to have meetings in person as things get better and people are more comfortable. The in-person meetings going forward will be hosted somewhere in Arlington or DC.
We're also open to other members hosting their own events through the group if there is a specific book/genre we haven’t covered that you are interested in or you want an event closer to where you live as the members of the group do live all over the DMV area. Or, maybe you would prefer a virtual meeting. Just let us know if you’re interested in this!
Sometimes we post polls to gauge interest on certain books and events. If you want to stay in the loop on events and other group activity, we do recommend making sure the email you used for your meetup account is one that you actually check, that your notifications are turned on in your account settings, and that the meetup emails aren’t going to your spam folder (we’ve had some issues with these that has made it difficult to get info out to everyone!) Otherwise, just be sure to browse the group discussion section and event comments in the meetup app/website if you want to stay connected.
Thanks for joining and we hope to meet you soon! :)
