The WorcShop, Leicester MA (Makerspace & Business Incubator)

This class will explain wood shop policies and safety procedures, as well as basic instructions on the operation of most of the tools currently up and running in the wood shop. Members may take this class to get their equipment certifications for most woodshop equipment.
Minimum Enrollment: 2 / Maximum Enrollment: 6
Class Cost: WorcShop Member $70 / Non-Member $85
Ticket Sales End: 4 days prior to the start date at 11:30P
Students should be prepared to show up for class at least 5 minutes ahead of the scheduled class time so that they may get a quick tour of the building before class.
Requirements include: Appropriate shop attire; Nonflammable clothing, esp cotton or natural fibers; Closed-toed shoes, boots preferred; Hair tied back, jewelry stowed; Earplugs recommended

What if my class doesn't make min enrollment?
If the class does not reach minimum enrollment, by the date specified in the listing (normally 3-7 days prior to the event) it will be canceled. Students will have the option of transferring their ticket(s) to another class or receiving a refund. (Members can pay an additional 50% of the ticket price to take class privately, Non-Members can purchase a second ticket.)

If you cannot make it to class and request a refund no later than 14 days prior, you will be refunded your entire ticket price. If you request a refund, 3 - 13 days prior to class & your seat is filled by another student you will be refunded 90% of your ticket price. If the seat remains vacant you will only be refunded 50% of your ticket price. If you request a refund less than 3 days prior to the event The WorcShop reserves the right to retain the ticket price in full. If you do not attend, for any reason, The WorcShop retains the ticket price in full. You may take the class at a later scheduled date for 50% off the ticket price (this fee goes entirely to our instructors, to compensate them in full for their time.)
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Classes are open to individuals 18+. Children are welcome to take most intro-level WorcShop classes alongside a parent or legal guardian; with a signed waiver. A ticket must be purchased for each person present. No more than 2 children are allowed per adult. Metal 100: Shop Orientation is where your metal education starts! We will go over, in detail, the physical metal fabrication space available at the WorcShop. We’ll discuss shot etiquette, WorcShop's additional paid services, locations of equipment, safety equipment, and other important features of the space. Then we’ll move on to tool and equipment certifications.
Students will become certified in the following tools: 4 ½” angle grinder - easily the most dangerous tool in the shop! Drill/drill press - cutting fluid is your friend Impact Driver and other battery-operated tools with bits- useful around the house too! Metal Mizer 2018 vertical band saw - massive and useful and expensive - please pay attention to assorted other useful power tools that all have similar safety features.
Note: This class does NOT include the MIG or TIG welders, the Uni Hydro ironworker, or the CNC plasma table. Additional classes and/or separate certification times must be scheduled for those.

MIG welding is one of the most common and useful welding techniques in use today. It is fairly easy to learn and has wide applications for everyday repair and fabrication. In this class, you will learn Equipment setup and safety, Basics of GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), Use of personal protective equipment associated with welding, Part preparation, Welding techniques for various positions (flat, vertical, horizontal, overhead), & Weld bead inspection and analysis.
