Hey yall!

I'm coming to you live from day one of FOSSETCon where a few of us are promoting WordPress and the awesomeness of it. I've got a few updates that I'd like to share with you about some of the amazing events over the coming weeks.

  • WordCamp Tampa is coming up very soon, on 4-5 October. It'll be their first, and plenty of us are already going to support. If you've not gotten a ticket yet, they're almost gone!
  • Our next meetup is a few days prior, on 1 October. We're going to be discussing the platform of WordPress itself. The idea is to introduce it to new people, so please invite your friends! We're going to step it up a bit this month with some extra libations to keep you properly tuned for the talks :D
  • We've got another meetup scheduled for October, and are looking for speakers for this and the coming months. Send an email over if you've got talk ideas, or want to present
  • Orlando tech week starts on 27 September with BarCamp, finishing off the following week. Several of us will be there (including Adam Soucie giving a WP talk!) and it's free to go, so come on down.
  • The Schwartz Awards return on 30 September, and I'm thankful and honored to be nominated as a tech champion this year. Let's keep this community going!

Launch a new career as a developer!

The Iron Yard, an immersive coding bootcamp that trains and mentors students to become professional junior programmers in 12 weeks, is opening in Orlando. If you're interested in launching a career in web development The Iron Yard might be the place for you! The Iron Yard is offering members of Women in Tech a $500 scholarship toward tuition to celebrate their inaugural Front End Engineering class starting September 22nd. A lot more information can be found on their website and in their FAQ. Additional scholarship information is on their Tuition page. Sarah Elbadri, the Iron Yard Campus Director is available to connect more with you about their program, the structure of the class, the job market locally, and answer any questions you might have. You can email her at [address removed] or call her at (407)[masked]

Interested in applying to The Iron Yard? The application can be found here!

A huge WordPress proponent, John Saddington, is a partner at The Iron Yard, and his support guarantees to me that our platform will get good coverage there. We've already gotten a few members to signup for the first round of classes, and I invite all of you to take a look at their program.

Thanks for making it through my long email!
    David Laietta
