Lots of WordPress Orlando 2017 Announcements!

New PHP course from Code School!

David's note: Code School has been graciously donating their space for our meetups. Their support for the local tech community goes above and beyond.

Code School's newest course Close Encounters With PHP is for anyone looking to go beyond basic PHP. Follow along with Instructor Hampton Paulk as he teaches you how to work with Composer, validate data like email and dates, use filters on forms, and other useful PHP functions. Then, reinforce what you've learned by completing coding challenges in your browser. Visit Code School now to start learning PHP:

Florida DrupalCamp is Coming!

We may be WordPress around here, but there is a strong Drupal community in Orlando as well, and we're all facing the same challenges and working on the same technical problems.

Florida DrupalCamp 2017 is February 17-19 in Orlando - this is the largest gathering of Drupal developers in the southeast U.S. This year's event includes full-day training (seats fill up fast!) included with the camp registration (only $35!). We have sessions on project management, front-end development, and other non-Drupal-y topics (we love FOSS!) Full details at

Learning WordPress Development Workshops

We've been working on some development workshops for the group, and Demian is leading the charge in organizing those as well as creating a full curriculum for the year. Expect more info at the next meetup, but if you are interested in learning how to develop WordPress sites, we're working on the following courses, starting in February:

  • Setting up a local development environment
  • Introduction to version control
  • Child theme development
  • Plugin development
  • In-depth lessons on WordPress security, accessibility, filters and actions, and advanced development

I'm really excited that we'll be able to make these courses available, and we'll begin announcing them via Meetup soon.

Have a great day!

- David Laietta
