Let's Virtually do Accessibility -- Literally! Another Mini WordPress-A-Thon!
Details
[NOTE: We want to limit this Meetup to 20 participants, so join soon . . . and also please update your RSVP if you later find that you cannot attend.]
Time to bring Accessibility to your own websites! This is a general WordPress / Web Accessibility topic meeting for problem-solving and learning together. Plan to roll up your sleeves (virtually) and participate.
Join online and ask your questions or share what you know about making WordPress websites Accessible (with a capital A) -- as measured by the Web Accessibility Content Guidelines (WCAG 2.1).
One of our objectives is to introduce some of the captioning tools that are available to assist your meetings in being Accessible. We do not endorse any specific product we may introduce. Our intention is only to educate.
At our last hands-on meetup we utilized Google Meet and its auto captioning options. For this meetup, we'll be testing out RTI Captioning, which captions meaning-for-meaning. After the fun foray with Google Meet last month, we are returning to Zoom for this month's adventures.

What is Web Accessibility?
Web accessibility means that websites, tools, and technologies are designed and developed so that people with disabilities can use them. More specifically, people can:
-- perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with the Web
-- contribute to the Web
Web accessibility encompasses all disabilities affecting access to the Web, including:
-- auditory
-- cognitive
-- neurological
-- physical
-- speech
-- visual
Web accessibility also benefits people without disabilities.

WordPress core is Accessible. What you add to it (themes, plugins, content) makes a difference in its Accessibility.
What’s this Meetup Event About?
We definitely talk about WordPress, and we'll discuss applying Accessibility guidelines and actions that make your WordPress website Accessible.
Join us and be prepared to participate as we look at the most common errors, why they are a problem and how to remediate them. Bring your laptop and work hands-on your own sites so you can learn the steps you can apply to all the sites you build with WordPress.
Who should attend?
Our meetup is inclusive. This event is for people who love WordPress and Accessibility and want to share their knowledge, experience, and to meet other WordPress users in the area. Both experienced and beginner WordPress designers are encouraged to attend and participate.
We do have a few rules.
In line with the mission of WordPress, our meetup was established in keeping with the 5 Good Faith Rules on Make WordPress (https://make.wordpress.org/community/handbook/meetup-organizer/meetup-program-basics/#the-five-good-faith-rules). Also please check our Code of Conduct (https://bit.ly/2ZGhtnG). We’re a friendly bunch, creating a friendly, nurturing and encouraging environment to talk WordPress.
NO Sales pitches of your products or services to the group. NO pitches of any product that you receive a kickback or commission.
No legal discussion or advice, unless you are a practicing civil rights or disability rights attorney and not just playing one on TV . . .
There are a lot of smart people in this group who show up ready to help and answer beginner and advanced topics alike. We encourage everyone to lend their voice to the conversation, but even if you know all the answers, please let others contribute as well.

** A very special thank you to Sumner M. Davenport & Assoc. LLC for contributing Rev auto-captioning and for providing our Zoom video conferencing services for our Meetup. **
