**VENUE CHANGE** - We're back in the Waterfront Building at Suffolk Uni. The event will be held in Lecture Theatre 2 (WLT2).

This month it's all about Gutenberg and how to build custom blocks without React.

# Building custom Gutenberg Blocks with ACF

The new block-based editor, Gutenberg, was released earlier this year and it brings with it challenges and opportunities for WordPress Developers.
As a PHP developer with little knowledge of React I had to make the decision whether to spend a great deal of time learning a new technology which seemed difficult even for those with Javascript knowledge.

Luckily Advanced Custom Fields introduced a beta version which allowed the creation of custom blocks using PHP.

In this talk I share how I have made my starter theme Gutenberg ready and how I have created custom blocks using ACF.

If any of you have experience with Javascript and React it would be good to understand what the advantages (if any) would be of building custom blocks with react over ACF.

Running Order (STC):

18:30 - Arrive for networking
19:00 - Opening remarks
19:10 - wp_update_post
19:45 - First session - Angie Vale
20:05 - Break
20:15 - Second session - Open discussion on Gutenberg
20:50 - Closing remarks
21:00 - Social
