- Writing Your First WordPress Plugin
The WordPress ecosystem gives us many ways to make money. There are opportunities from simple ad-supported blogging to full enterprise-level website development and everything in between. As we begin to get more comfortable with WordPress from a user perspective, many of us will start getting ideas about how WordPress could be better. Plugins are the feature that gives us the power to make those improvements to WordPress. Carefully crafted PHP code written and running in the context of the comprehensive WordPress Plugin API allows us to extend or completely change WordPress' functionality to suit our needs and the WordPress Plugin ecosystem allows us to share our ideas with the world as a free or premium product. Join us on Saturday, June 29th 2019, at Wisma Bandaraya as we take a look at WordPress plugin development. We'll cover the minimum requirements, show a "Hello World"-style example, build something more interesting together. Bringing your own laptop computer is recommended, but not strictly necessary.
- Kota Kinabalu WordPress Meetup February 2019
For this week's meetup, we'll have two presentations. This represents a change in format for our meetups. The presentations will be fast-paced and we'll save questions for after each presentation. Vince is able to speak in both English and Malay and is most comfortable speaking "Bahasa Campur". The presentations will be recorded and streamed live from Vince's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4s3Np_QtrG-uLAihqEXlFQ The slides will be available online after the presentations and there are several ways to get in touch with the core members of the WordPress KK for any questions or feedback. ## 1: What is WordPress? The first presentation is meant for absolute beginners who may have heard of WordPress, but don't quite understand what it is or how to use it. We'll discuss what WordPress is, how it relates to other apps that we all use in our everyday lives, and how we might go on to use it personally and professionally. This session doesn't require a computer or any prior experience. ## 2: Moving Your WordPress Site Our second presentation is meant for people who've already started using WordPress and they're ready to move to a different host. This will be a live example in which we'll move an existing site from WordPress.com to another host. Although the example site is hosted at WordPress.com, the procedure covered should be easy to adapt to a WordPress site hosted anywhere. This session doesn't require a computer, but you're welcome to bring your laptop and follow along if you're ready to move your own WordPress site. We won't be able to help during the presentation, but there is time allocated for hands-on assistance after the presentation.
