Developers Knowledge Share: Intro to HTML5 and CSS3 (Take 2)

Details

For our (almost) February meetup we are revisiting the idea of a Knowledge Share on HTML5 and CSS3. This carry over topic was was crowd-sourced by those who responded to the discussion thread I posted back in December about what our meetups should cover. At our earlier January meetup, we had a great "Ted" talk by our very own Ted Roche which was an Introduction to Tags and Styles, as well as history about what the W3C is and isn't. We're going to build on that this month by digging into new tags and styles.

Schedule

6:30-6:45pm: Introductions and Shout-outs (Jobs, Help Needed/Offered, or Web/WP events of interest).

6:45-8:15pm: Knowledge Share of HTML5 and CSS3

8:15-8:30pm: Wrap-Up. Decide on March topic.

This is going to be more of a technical meeting than most, however it's not specific to WordPress either. This information should be of interest to all web developers.

We're trying something new - crowd-sourcing the presenting. Below is a list of HTML5 and CSS3 topics. If you're interested in learning more about these, please pick 1 or 2 to share some knowledge about. Message me or comment on the meetup to take some on. The idea is to go for around 5 minutes (or less) on each topic - just give a basic overview of what can be done with the tags, an example of the syntax, and a live working example. This can all be taken from a book or you can even use an online source. It doesn't have to be hard or something you invent from scratch. Feel free to find a really good example online that you can walk us through clearly. Bonus points if you can provide info on fallback code and current browser support (http://caniuse.com/ may be helpful for determining browser support). Folks are welcome to bring or set up slides or just talk off to cuff, just be sure to have some examples of code and how it works to demonstrate.

WordPress users and developers of all levels are welcome at our meetups. Sometimes our topics are focused on the the back-end coding and development of sites from scratch, and other times on more front-end user or administrator experience, plugins/tools, themes, site maintenance, SEO, etc. You will find a casual and friendly bunch of folks at our meetups and time is available for networking and shout-outs.

If you are interested in giving a 10-15 minute lightning talk about something, please let me know (amanda@amandagiles.com). These talks can be about anything WordPress/web related (social media, SEO, useful plugins/themes, business practices, code practices or tools, etc.).
