You may have heard that WordPress has begun the process integrating a JSON REST API in version 4.4. This month Andy Gagnon (http://andregagnon.com/) will be talking about the JSON REST API and will cover:

• Why it's important for WordPress to have an API.

• What is CRUD, REST, JSON, and how to interface with a REST API.

• How to configure and interface with the JSON REST API in WordPress

• We'll review some code examples in PHP and Javascript.

WordPress started as an open-source blogging tool. The introduction of custom post types meant WordPress could be used as a full-fledged content management system. The JSON REST API is a new opportunity for WordPress to become a web application platform. Come learn about the future of WordPress web development.

As this meetup also marks 5 years of meetups for our group (!), there will also be some celebrating happening in the form of cake and adult beverages! Come join us to kick off 2016 in grand fashion.

***

WordPress users and developers of all levels are welcome at all of our meetups. Developers meetups are held on the 1st Wed of each month. At our Developers meetups, the topics tend to be technical and focused on the the back-end coding and development of themes and plugin or sometimes on business practices related to making a living from WordPress, etc. You will find a casual and friendly bunch of folks at our meetups and time is available for networking and shout-outs. If you are new to WordPress, you should instead check out our Users meetup on the 2nd Thurs of each month.

If you are interested in giving a 10-15 minute lightning talk about something (longer talks are fine too!), please let me know ([masked]). These talks can be about anything WordPress/web related (social media, SEO, useful plugins/themes, business practices, code practices or tools, etc.).
