Meet other local writers and let creativity bloom! Come to a Writers Meetup to review work, trade literary tips, make friends and have fun! All writers -- and should-be writers -- are welcome!
Specific details NOTE: We meet in Cary, NC, so please only join this group if you are able to come to Cary Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
This meetup formed, phoenix-like, out of the ashes of the Raleigh writer's group that had been in existence since June 2005, and which I began being the organizer of in September 2006.
Our format is to read our writings aloud at each meeting, each work read can be up to 5 pages, double-spaced. Please bring enough copies of your writing for everyone at the meeting. We read as many as are possible in the 2 hours we are together, and then give constructive critiques after each reading on the material that has been read. If we don't get to your work on a given night, it will be one of the first ones read at the following meeting. Note that you don't have to bring anything to your first meeting, you are welcome to sit and take part in giving constructive critiques.
Everyone is quite friendly and the level of talent is outstanding. The meetings are usually quite fun, in addition to being valuable learning tools. I encourage anyone with a genuine desire to write and improve their writing to join!
We meet in the evenings on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month, the location is revealed to group members. New members are required to attend their first meeting within 4 weeks of joining Regular members are required to attend at least one meeting every three months. Those who don't meet these requirements are subject to being removed from the group by the organizer. I have found that this is the best way to weed out those who just join on a whim and who aren't seriously committed to the craft of writing.
Finally, bi-annual (once every 6 months) dues of 6 dollars per person are collected from each member, these are solely to pay for the use of the meetup website (90 dollars total, every 6 months). Thank you!
