Documentation at GDS: docs as code, user testing, and agile teams

Details

In November Jen Lambourne (Government Digital Service) will speak about Documentation at GDS: docs as code, user testing, and agile teams.

About the presentation

Software development happens pretty fast at Government Digital Service (GDS). As development teams create and iterate their products at speed, documentation can be a challenge.

This talk will look at how the technical writing team at GDS keep documentation user-focused, maintainable and consistent by combining user research, docs as code, and agile processes.

We'll cover some of the lessons we've learned and things we're still working on and explain how you can get involved in docs for government products and services.

About the speaker

Jen is a technical writer fighting an endless battle against acronyms and jargon. After escaping the worlds of technology PR and marketing, she now works at Government Digital Service (GDS), part of the Cabinet Office. In her latest role, Jen produces technical guidance for people across the UK government, as well as technical documentation for GDS products and services - all with a heavy dose of user research and testing.
