EVENT DESCRIPTION

Write the Docs Ottawa and Shopify are pleased to invite you for an evening of socialization, networking, and talks. For this instalment of Write the Docs we're pleased to present a special edition "On Writing". Inspired by "The Elements of Style", "Dreyer's English" and more, this edition of is all about the writing processes, style guides, workflows, and online resources that help us do our jobs better. After several meetups that focused on more technical aspects of writing (and quite a bit of focus on APIs!) it will be nice to reconnect with our core competencies and get reacquainted with ourselves as writers.

Rory J. Tanner:

Rory will present on subtraction and addition in his editing practices.
Rory is a technical writer / editor @Shopify, and an erstwhile academic @uottawa

Christopher Clunas:

Christopher, a content specialist and technical writer at Shopify, will talk about the benefits of including examples in our written content.

Andrew Johnston:

Andrew will present a short talk "On Writing", inspired by Stephen King's title of the same name, Andrew's talk is a harrowing foray into the lone tech writer's process.
Andrew Johnston is an API technical writer working at Shopify. He primarily works on developer documentation for REST and GraphQL APIs. Andrew is steeped in Montreal's start-up culture where he got his start in tech almost 15 years ago. He is an international speaker that has presented at API the Docs London on two occasions and is one of the event organizers of the Write the Docs YOW meetup in Ottawa at Shopify.
