One of the fascinating aspects of technical communication is the variety of work and positions available to people that want to leverage writing and communication skills professionally.

In our June meeup, we're excited to provide a window into the long term careers of three professionals that began their careers as writers:

• John Collins, Senior Information Experience Writer from Atlassian
• David Cramer Tools Developer at Apple
• Karin Levenstein, Documentation Manager at Rackspace.

John, David, and Karin will share their stories, and you'll have a chance to ask questions that might help you navigate your own path--whether you're starting out, growing your current role, or strategizing a career transition.

About our speakers

John Collins works for Atlassian as a member of the design organization. He’s a senior writer on the Information Experience team. Prior to Atlassian, John was at Rosetta Stone, where he learned the importance of combining content and user experience, first as a technical writer and then as senior UX content strategist. David Cramer is a tools developer at Apple, Inc. After earning a PhD in Classics from UT Austin in 2000, he wisely pivoted, tricking his way into a technical writing job at a start up. He soon found that he was far too lazy to do any actual writing, so he automated most of his work away until he increasingly identified as a documentation tools developer. Later he dabbled in DevOps and whatever else his various employers would pay him to do. He lives in Austin with his two daughters and three chickens.
