The class builds on the particular energy that grows when we gather with the shared intention to locate and express the truth of our lives, whether in fiction, non-fiction, or poetry. Designed to deepen your work as well as to help you break through any obstacles in your writing path, meetings combine writing time with opportunities for reading aloud from your work in class or your work at home.
In the class, we'll begin with a short silent reflection, then move into brief check-ins before we start writing. I'll include discussion of strategies for disarming the inner critic and give you exercises to help ignite your writing.
I’ll also provide ways to catch ourselves off guard and work from edgier places than we usually do. Together, we’ll create a safe container in which we can explore the worlds of possibilities in our souls.
China Galland is the award-winning author of six books, including: “Love Cemetery, Unburying the Secret History of Slaves” (HarperOne); “Longing for Darkness, Tara and the Black Madonna” (Penguin); “The Bond Between Women, a Journey to Fierce Compassion” (Penguin /Riverhead). She has also written for “The Washington Post,” “Ms. Magazine”, “D Magazine,” “Tricyle,” “Outside,” and other publications.
