Rune Study - Class 9 - Year Long Monthly Intensive

  • Mar 1, 2014 · 2:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We will study Laguz, Othala, Ingwaz, and Dagaz.  Additionally, we will review our experiences with the previous four runes.  We will continue with advanced divination and do three rune draws, and discuss methods to increase our skill in those areas.  This class will feature a guided journey to the lower realm.  First time students are still welcome.

Please bring your runes if you have them!

Additionally, we will talk briefly about the next few classes, continuing with the Anglo-Saxon and Northumbrian rune sets.  Those classes require journeying experience.  I highly recommend that you strengthen your journeying skills for the advanced classes.

A year long kids class in rune study will take place at the same time with different tasks based on age in separate area of the same location.  Please see that meetup for details.

Words have power. Many cultures across the world have a sacred alphabet, a system of shapes that function both as the basis of a written language and as foundation of spiritual wisdom. In the Northern European cultures these symbols are runes - sacred and used in writing, in divination, and in magic.

Students will delve into the ancient historical meaning as preserved in the rune poems as well as contemporary meanings. Coursework will include examples of practical, spiritual and magical applications of the runes, such as Valdr, Galdr, casting methods, bindrunes, as well as making your own rune set. We will explore the runes individually, grouped as pairs, and grouped as aetts, thus shedding light on the variety of connections the runes share with each other. Focus will begin with the Germanic Elder Futhark, with discussions on the Younger and Anglo-Saxon Futhark in later classes.

Past intensives have included work with Diana Paxson and other scholars.
Students who have no experience with Seidth or Shamanic work will be taught the basics to advance their divination and working skills with the runes.

Where: 7023 Mathew Street Greenbelt, MD 20770

Cost: $10 each class
When: First Saturday of Each Month 2 PM - 4 PM
Materials: Taking Up the Runes - Diana Paxson (Mention this class at Crystal Fox for a competitive discount)

One other book of your choice (We will discuss at the February class).

Note: If this will be your first class, please contact Christian (xtian) for details.  I would like you to show up a bit early so I can give you insight you will need to participate.  Please read the intro and the first 6 runes.

Normally, each month you will study 4 runes and magically work with the 4 runes from the previous month.  The first month includes some additional discussion and only has 2 runes.

I just realized Ed and Aine could attend Runes class this weekend while I take Heidi to her concert.
