XRLA November 2018
XRLA invites you to our November Meetup, with location to be announced soon! This time around we're changing the focus towards healthcare. Speakers: Nicholas Abel is one of Osso VR's best and brightest VR developers. Nick is a software engineer with experience in Unity3D, VR physics interactions and room-scale VR design. After graduating from the University of Washington with a CS degree, he immediately began working in virtual reality full-time for Tomorrow Today Labs, followed by a full-time position at Unity working on key virtual reality features for their platform. He is also a co-creator of NewtonVR. Brandon Birckhead, MD, is a project scientist working on VR clinical trials at Cedars-Sinai. He has been researching the use of immersive technology (VR/AR) within healthcare for the last three years. He began his work with therapeutic virtual reality by helping providers in head restricted clinical settings, such as dentistry, use the technology for pain and anxiety relief. He then created a pilot research study at Mayo Clinic to examine the effect of VR on pain using the cold pressor test. He has collaborated with researchers at Moffitt Cancer Center to assess its use in medical education. He is working with Dr. Brennan Spiegel and a cohort of international therapeutic VR experts, to create guidelines for future clinical trials within the field. This committee of researchers is called the VR-CORE (Virtual Reality – Clinical Outcomes Research Experts). Brandon received his medical degree from Mayo Medical School.

    What we're about

This is a group for anyone interested in all immersive technologies including 360 video, VR, AR, MR, and everything in between. We range from new enthusiasts to developers and also businesses that support the space.

We have consistent meetups all over Los Angeles where we can meet, mingle, and check out what other developers are doing with emerging technologies. The members of XRLA are always excited to learn more from each other as we bring up different developers to share our challenges and successes.
