November Xcake: AR Talks at The Digital Hub

As a part of a Immersive Tech Week The Digital Hub offered to host us in November.
Please note, it is the third Tue of the month, not the usual second.

Rodhán will show how he created the Look ARound app that allows children to interact with local landmarks using augmented reality. The app uses VisionKit to scan a design from a preprinted colouring sheet, and then uses Core ML and the Vision framework to recognise the landmark and augment it with the child’s creation. The model was trained offline from public images sourced from the internet. Rodhán will take us through the workflow for annotating the images and creating the model using Turi Create in a Jupyter Notebook, before diving into an explanation of the innards of the app. Colouring sheets and materials will be available on the evening in case anyone wants to try their hand at designing some new sails for St. Patrick’s Tower, the windmill at the heart of The Digital Hub.
