What we're about

Hi and welcome to our club. We have a varied program with lots to offer to active people looking for fun and friendship in the great outdoors. There is plenty to choose from with outdoor activities such as bushwalking, sailing, cycling, kayaking & snorkelling plus weekends away staying at hostels or car camping while on the social side we have restaurant nights, theatre parties, trivia nights and picnics. The club is open to everyone aged 18 and above. People looking for a full and active involvement are welcome.

We have no joining or membership fees as we receive funding from YHA in appreciation of some general maintenance work that we do at the Hawkesbury Heights (North Springwood) Hostel.

We trust that you will find something of interest and hope to see you soon.

Henry Head circuit walk at La Perouse

La Perouse

We will meet in La Perouse at 2pm at the Macquarie Watchtower (inside the ANZAC Parade Circle in La Perouse) and walk via Congwong Trail, Jennifer St Boardwalk over to Cape Banks Rd and then along the spectacular coast line to Cape Banks and heading west to Congwong Beach. The walk will start and end in La Perouse. Below is a detailed description of the walk, although we might follow a slightly different route. The track is described here as hard, we will walk over rocky terrain, mostly unsealed tracks that have a moderate to steep incline. The walk is around 6-8 km long, will lead us to some remote beaches, old military forts, forgotten cemetery ruins, through coastal forests and headlands with great ocean views. http://www.wildwalks.com/bushwalking-and-hiking-in-nsw/botany-bay/cape-banks-circuit.html Please bring along drinking water, sunblock, a hat, solid walking shoes and a jumper. We might do a few breaks at Henry Head and Cape Banks, so bring along some lunch. For those who want to extend the walk we can head over to tranquil Yarra Bay and Molineaux Point Lookout. Buses back to CBD; L94, 391, 393 and 394 depart from ANZAC Parade terminus. Don't come along on this walk if you are unwell, have a cough, a scratchy throat and flu like symptoms, are sneezing or have been in contact with a person who has been affected with covid19.

Hunting for Wild Superfoods Sydney Tour via Horse Racecourse

Central Station Grand Concourse

In this walk we will be exploring the traditional lands of the Gadigal peoples of the Eora Nation. There is an interesting geography here, as we traverse what used to be Sydneys early farmlands and villages, to what was once their outskirts, on our way to what used to be the marshlands of Sydney. Along the way we will see Sydneys largest coffee tree, an array of various Native figs, some super grasses which we can turn into wine, Olive trees, and fish the size of mini people. The walk is roughly 8km and should take us a little over two hours to complete. At the end we will celebrate Australia’s premier horserace with an Australian Lunch of sorts, peppered with a few multicultural dishes infused with some of the bounty we learnt of during the walk. Its a great way to exchange, learn, and unwind.

Catamaran sailing Lake Macquarie (camping)

Needs a location

** We are full for this weekend, send your details if you want to go on the waitlist ** Enjoy pretty Lake Macquarie (2 hours from Sydney) while zipping along on our 18-foot catamaran and getting a good introduction to sailing. More exciting than being on a yacht ! You must email me (Mark Lovi) directly (to [masked] ) as well as RSVP on Meetup. Enquiries:[masked]. COST: Sailing fee $70, camping $20, lift $30, tent hire $10. Camping is at a caravan park with facilities. We are a long-established sailing group run by the YHA. We hold sailing weekends every 4 weeks. NO SAILING EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. Catamaran sailing is a fun and exciting way to experience the water, as the boats zip along in the wind. The boats are easy to sail and offer a good opportunity for anyone who wants to learn or experience sailing by getting some practice on either handling the jib, trapezing (hanging out the side of the boat on a harness) or skippering. We are not a "racing" group, we just like to be on the water and away from Sydney for a weekend, taking it easy.
