Speculative Civic Tech Futures
Ottawa Civic Tech and Speculative Futures Ottawa invite you to a special event for our 98th hacknight session. As technology becomes increasingly accessible and open for citizens to contribute to within their civic environment, how can we build our future cities together? What is the role of creativity and imagination in the context of civic tech and policy design? What are the narratives we are creating for our shared futures as we develop technologies that are for the public good? How will the environment we live in shape new technologies and vice versa? We will be announcing our panelists soon. Do you have questions around foresight policy, civic tech, technology? Go to and enter event code #E450 Join us and be part of this important conversation and relationship between government and citizens. You do not need to be a "techie" to attend --everyone is welcome, and everyone can contribute questions, ideas, and insights on how we might work with government changemakers to build civic good through technology, data, design, policy, advocacy & citizen engagement. 6:00pm - 6:30pm: Networking 6:30pm - 6:45pm: Welcome to Ottawa Civic Tech and Speculative Futures Ottawa 6:45pm - 7:00pm: Panel Introductions 7:00pm - 8:00pm: Panel Discussion 8:00 - 8:15pm: Audience Q&A 8:15 - 8:30pm: Community Updates / Projects

    What we're about

Originally founded in San Francisco, Speculative Futures ( ) is a community of design practitioners interested in Critical Design, Speculative Design, Design Fiction, Discursive Design, Futurism, Science Fiction or any other incarnation of the approach which involves using design to speculate about alternate futures.

Members of the Ottawa chapter host workshop series to produce case studies and future scenarios, which will allow practitioners to learn how to conduct and apply futures design thinking in a variety of circumstances as a method of synthesis and strategy.

The 18/19 Series will be examining 5 prominent forces impacting the future of civic experiences: automation and technological transformation, leadership and politics, environmental change, social conditions, and economics.

    Details coming soon.
