Details

Event Name: Hike to Mockingbird Lookout

The fire road up to the lookout is an excellent early season hike, with outstanding views of the front ranges of the Rocky Mountains.

Event Difficulty Level: easy to moderate

Trail Distance: 5.6 km return

Elevation Gain: 354 metres

Safety precaution: do not approach any wildlife, wild horses may be in the area. The lookout is a summit so could be vulnerable to lightning strikes.

Event Trailhead: Marker 121, Waiparous Valley Road, approximately 4 km off of Highway 40 (North). (Note that this version of HIghway 40 is accessed from Highway 1A west of Cochrane.)

Driving Distance: 90 km one way. The Calgary Ski Club suggests a compensation of $0.06 cents per kilometer both ways for the driver(s) of the carpools. Note that 1/2 the driving for this hike is not on paved roads.

Duration of hike: Four Hours

Meeting Time and Place: Please arrive no later than 8:45 a.m., at North Edworthy Park, north side, to arrange carpooling, as we will be departing at 9:00 a.m. sharp.

Notice of Cancellation: The trip leader will contact registered participants by phone or email if the trip is cancelled or postponed. Registrants are asked to change their RSVP if they have a change of plan.
