Bike Highway 40: It's Closed & It's Open

Details

Description: How about some road biking without the fossil fueled vehicles (or Teslas) for company? While the pavement remains closed, we, the Self-Propelled, can do an out-and-back on the S approach to Highwood Pass on Hwy. 40. The goal will be enjoyment of the ride & the scenery. Enjoyment can include personal challenge such as seeing how far you can go or trying to reach a certain average pace. All the enjoyment, whatever form it takes, needs to be limited to 2 hours, the total time we’ll take for riding. All participants will be expected to be back at the starting point 2 hours after they leave because we carpool to Hard Knox Brewery in Black Diamond for refreshment after our ride.
Notice of Cancellation: The trip leader(s) will contact registered participants if the trip is cancelled or postponed. Registrants are asked to change their RSVP if they have a change of plan.
Event Location/Destination: W of Longview at Highwood Junction
Driving Distance: 109 km one-way ($15 carpool fee suggested)
What to bring: Bike helmets are required as well as a spare inner tube & a bike in working order. Do bring a lunch & a litre of water.

Event Difficulty Level: Easy – Challenging (gradual climb but mostly uphill riding until riders turn back). Choose your challenge.

Guest policy: Guests are welcome to 'try us out' on a couple of events. Do fill out a Guest Waiver (http://calgaryskiclub.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Calgary-Ski-Club-Informed-Consent-and-Assumption-of-Risk-Agreement-.pdf) & bring it to the trip leader each time.
