Yoga Hiking Weekend - Grasmere Ind Hostel, Lake District
Grasmere Independent Hostel is one of our favourite locations for weekend breaks. The hostel itself is immaculate, its a wonderful building, set in lovely grounds and we have it for our exclusive use for this weekend. The yoga studio is very new and also immaculate and is just across the courtyard from the accommodation where we will be offering a choice of classes for each session, a beginners class and a more intermediate level class. The walks in the area are also wonderful and we will be able to do a full circuit of Grasmere lake on Saturday and a walk on Sunday beside tumbling streams and waterfalls up to the lovely beauty spot of Easedale Tarn. The weekend will include three yoga classes, a guided hike each day, accommodation, breakfast and packed lunch on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on Saturday night in the hostel. ....Plus of course, plenty of Yen's homemade cake and tea after each days hike. Grasmere is many peoples favourite Lakeland village and is famous for the small church where William Wordsworth is buried and also for Sarah Nelson’s Gingerbread shop, next door, which has been selling gingerbread since 1854. Its also September, so the weather should be at its best for visiting this lovely corner of the Lakes. Your hosts for this weekend are Yen who will take the yoga classes and Kevin who will lead the walks. Yen is a qualified yoga teacher and personal trainer and Kevin is an International Mountain and UK mountain leader. We both live in the Lake District and know the area very well and are both qualified in outdoor first aid. __________________________________________________________________ Accommodation Our base is Grasmere Independent Hostel located amidst the beautiful Central Fells and a short stroll from the idyllic village itself. Grasmere Independent Hostel is a truly special place at the heart of the Lake District National Park, with 4 ensuite rooms (sleeping combinations of 4,5 or 6 people). The deluxe 4 star hostel is perfect for our group. We have exclusive use of the Hostel which includes our own room for yoga. Grasmere Hostel’s extensive facilities include en-suite bathrooms, a fully equipped self-catering kitchen, dining room, lounge with fantastic views, laundry facilities, secure bike storage, drying room, bbq patio area and even a sauna. Add to that the stunning location, midway between Windermere and Keswick, and you have the perfect base for our Lake District holiday. The hostel is ranked #1 in Grasmere with a 5 star rating on Trip Advisor and the owners work tirelessly to keep it. Its also been praised by prestigious publications including The Rough Guide and The Guardian – who called it “The Lake District’s finest independent hostel”, no less. _________________________________________________________________ Yoga There will be a total of three classes during the weekend, more tailored to ability, so you will be asked if you would like to join the beginners or intermediate class. We offer two yoga classes on Saturday with a walk in between through the village and around the lake. There will also be a yoga class on Sunday morning before breakfast. Sessions will take place before breakfast and after we return from our walk. The general focus of the morning sessions will be to energise and warm up the body for our walk, and in the afternoon, will be to stretch out those tired muscles and relax the body and calm the mind. There will be an emphasis on the breath and movement, and our priority is for the yoga to be enjoyable and safe for all. Yoga and hiking are a great combination, and everyone leaves feeling rejuvenated and re-energised. A limited number of mats will be provided for your use but feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer. Any queries regarding the yoga sessions, please contact us. Note about Classes We will offer two different levels of yoga classes for each slot (Saturday morning, Saturday evening and Sunday morning). We have found that we do have a wide range of yoga experience within our groups and therefore offering two classes means we will be able to offer a class more suited to ability. Those who are experienced (intermediate level - familiar with sun salutations and practice regularly) and a class for those who are beginners (new or returners to yoga or those who prefer a gentler class). Please be realistic about your ability and level as this will make the classes more enjoyable for you and the other members of the class. Any queries regarding the yoga sessions, please contact us. ____________________________________________________________________ Walks On Saturday afer yoga and breakfast, we will head into the village, then around the lake to Loughrigg terrace which gives great views back across the lake to the village. On Sunday we will do a steady walk where we can take in Helm Crag and Easedale Tarn, before returning to the hostel in time for departure. These walks are moderate walks for the Lake District of about 7-8 miles each day. However, it is the Lake District and so there will be steep and rocky sections and possibly wet and boggy sections. Therefore a good level of fitness is required and boots are strongly advised. ____________________________________________________________________ Costs and Bookings Total cost for the weekend £155 plus optional £10 return transfer from Windermere train station. What we're about

Welcome to Yoga Hikes! Sociable & Friendly Yoga Hiking Breaks

Yoga and Hiking is the perfect combination for a healthy, revitalising, enjoyable and friendly weekend break. We base all our breaks in very special places, start and finish the day with a yoga class and head out for great hikes on the doorstep.

"Just brilliant! Yoga and walking make the perfect couple, I've decided. Add to that a great venue, fabulous and plentiful food, homemade cake and great company, and you've a recipe for a perfect weekend. The fact it was in such beautiful surroundings as Windermere just made it even better." - Fiona, Feb 2017

All our weekends are run by Yen, who is a fully qualified yoga teacher and personal trainer and Kevin who is a fully qualified International mountain leader. We are based in the Lake District, so many of our trips are based here, but we also run trips to the mountains of Andalusia in Spain as well.

We focus on smaller group breaks of around 15 to 20, because we believe this is the ideal group size to manage safely and give everyone the opportunity to meet each other and make friends. Its also the ideal size for yoga class. We have run larger groups, but we feel they can become impersonal and more difficult to manage safely.

Tea & Homemade Cake
A popular feature of all of our weekends has become Yen's homemade cakes. This is a delicious and rewarding way to finish all of our hikes.

We welcome people of all nationalities and backgrounds, the only requirement is a love of the outdoors and a good level of fitness. Our yoga hikes weekends are aimed at people who are already reasonably fit and are happy to participate in two yoga classes and walk for about 6 hours each day.

You may notice that some breaks and trips are showing with more people booked than you can see on the Meetup page. This is because we also have other Meetup groups and our own website ( where we take bookings.
