What we're about

York Writers’ Group is a place where you can receive constructive feedback on your writing, listen to the writing of others, and meet like minded writers. We welcome all writers of fiction (any genre; novels or short stories), poetry, drama and autobiography. Whether you are a complete beginner or a published writer, the only requirement is that you treat the other attendees with respect and kindness. We all have to start somewhere!

Format

7pm to 9pm - A chance for willing participants to read out a piece of writing that they have been working on, in order to receive constructive feedback from the group. This is completely voluntary, and you are welcome to just listen/critique if you do not want to read that night. The reading time is up to ten minutes (this is about 2000 words) followed by ten minutes of constructive feedback from the attendees. We expect to get through between 4 and 6 pieces an evening. The organiser will manage the timings.

9pm onwards – Stay for a drink and further discussion if you want to!

Submitting your writing

Providing copies of your piece of writing is voluntary, but it helps tremendously in understanding and critiquing your work if we can actually have it in front of us rather than just hearing it. Please bring a print out if you want to, or submit your piece to yorkwritersgroup@gmail.com. All attendees can then log into this account from their phones/tablets (password will be provided on the night) to read along.
