Monument Peak is one of popular peaks looming over Silicon Valley and offers views of the Bay Area. Monument Peak is the sister peak to the south of the better known Mission Peak. We will start the hike for Monument Peak from Ed Levin County Park in Milpitas.
This loop hike will begin with a short segment on the Tularcitos Trail near Sandy Wool Lake. The Tularcitos Trail will take us to Calera Creek Trail. We will continue until the first junction where we will take a left onto Agua Caliente Trail, which will take us almost all the way to Monument Peak. At the next junction, we will follow the middle option of three options and continue on the Monument Peak Road. After a short hike on the spur trail, we will reach the summit of Monument Peak, then have lunch, socialize, and enjoy a 360 view. For the return portion of this loop hike, we will follow Monument Peak Road for most of the way down from the peak. At the junction with Agua Caliente Trail, we will take a left turn onto the segment of the Agua Caliente Trail. We will continue down to the Tularcitos Trail. Taking a right turn onto this trail, a short traverse will then return us back to the starting point at Sandy Wool Lake.
