An Abundance of Katherines by John Green (November Book Discussion)

Selected by Poll on the meetup site and confirmed in September's meeting, we'll be reading An Abundance of Katherines, the acclaimed story of love and loss from John Green, who delighted so many of us with The Fault in Our Stars.

When it comes to relationships, Colin Singleton’s type is girls named Katherine. And when it comes to girls named Katherine, Colin is always getting dumped. Nineteen times, to be exact. On a road trip miles from home, this anagram-happy, washed-up child prodigy has ten thousand dollars in his pocket, a bloodthirsty feral hog on his trail, and an overweight, Judge Judy–loving best friend riding shotgun—but no Katherines. Colin is on a mission to prove The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, which he hopes will predict the future of any relationship, avenge Dumpees everywhere, and finally win him the girl. Love, friendship, and a dead Austro-Hungarian archduke add up to surprising and heart-changing conclusions in this ingeniously layered comic novel about reinventing oneself.

Apparently it's popular this month--I had to "waitlist". Just want to say I am totally definitely coming anyway, because 1) MATH and 2) I have the MOST BIZARRELY APPROPRIATE story to tell you guys about the mathematician who helped Green with the math in the book.

Totally don't have an appropriate story. Totally coming anyway (even though I'm on the wait list) for the same reason!

You are officially on the list now, but you are always allowed to bum rush the group.

I am in graduate school and I have a big assignment that requires a lot of time. It is due in a few days. I am thinking a trip to Austin would probably use up six hours of my day that I could use to work on part of the assignment. I turned in one assignment this morning but the next one is already coming up. I will join you on some future book discussion.

Since I am coming from San Antonio I will update if I cannot attend a few hours before the meetup or maybe days earlier if something comes up. I listened to the audio book about a month ago. I will get a copy of the book from the library to look though again and take to the meet up.
