Pair Programming for kids age 5-14

Details

WHAT: This event aims to be recurring (monthly or perhaps even weekly) where small groups of kids ranging in age from 5-14 can get together (for 0.5 to 4 hours depending on their attention span) to do Pair Programming (described below) to learn and teach their programming language of choice, from Scratch Jr. to Python, Java, or whatever other language they choose. Parents are welcome to come alone to evaluate the event before bringing their child to a future meetup if desired.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Canopy City is about 4 minutes walk (0.2 mi) from the Washington St @ Dane St stop on the Bus 86 route. Alternatively it's about a 1 minute walk from Somerville Ave opp Loring St stop on the Bus 87 route.

PARKING: There is on-street parking on Tyler Street and several large parking lots at nearby stores like Market Basket at 400 Somerville Ave which is about a 5 minute walk from Canopy City.

WHEN TO ARRIVE: Please plan to arrive at 4:55pm. As an old US Navy officer who emphasizes punctuality, I plan to begin a 5-minute presentation promptly at 5:00pm to allow the kids to make the most of the 2 hours that we'll have the room. I encourage parents and kids to introduce themselves to each other informally in pairs after my 5-minute presentation to maximize Pair Programming time for all. That said however, we nonetheless welcome you to show up even if you're unavoidably late due to traffic or whatever. (I'm not THAT strict! ;)

SECURITY: Please introduce yourself to my son Eric when you enter Conference Room 2 and he'll keep track of who showed from the RSVP list.

ROOM: Conference Room 2.
